This is the first of the three mandatory Finance courses for the Management Series Program.

In this online course, you will learn about the Government of the Northwest Territories’ financial legislations, regulations and policies, as well as how financial authorities and functions are organized.

The course takes about 2 hours to complete in total, and is broken down into 3 separate lessons, which allows the course to be taken in separate increments, depending on the time availabilities and operation requirements for individual participants.  Each lesson concludes with review questions to answer.  This financial management course draws upon a number of sources, including the Northwest Territories Act, the Financial Administration Act and Manual, and other legislations and policies.  Most of these references are available online and links are provided where appropriate.

Lessons:

Lesson 1: Legislation and Policy Overview – This lesson is an overview of the legislation that provides the financial authority to the GNWT’s activities.

Lesson 2: Regulations, Directives and Policies – This lesson looks at the regulations, policies, interpretation bulletins and directives that flow from the Financial Administration Act.

Lesson 3: Organization of the GNWT’s Financial Function – This lesson provides an overview of how the financial function is organized in the GNWT, along with a discussion of the financial authorities and roles of the various positions and structures within the GNWT.
