2021 rates for the Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, and the Government of Canada Pension Plan

Rates for the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Employment Insurance (EI), and the Government of Canada Pension Plan (Superannuation) are subject to change each year.

The new rates for 2021 are:

CPP

5.45% of earnings to a to a yearly maximum contribution in 2021 of $3,166.45 (The 2020 rate was 5.25% to a maximum contribution of $2,898.00)

EI

1.58% of insurable earnings to a yearly maximum contribution in 2021 of $889.54 (The 2020 rate was 1.58% to a maximum contribution of $856.36) 

Superannuation Pension Contributions

There is a change in pension contributions for all employees as per the rates below:

Group 1 (employees enrolled before Jan 1, 2013)

  • 9.83% on earnings up to $ 61,600.00 (2020 rate was 9.53% on earnings up to $58,700.00) 
  • 12.26% on earning over $61,600.00 (2020 rate was 11.72% on earnings over $58,700.00)

Group 2 (employees enrolled after Jan 1, 2013)

  • 8.89% on earnings up to $ 61,600.00 (2020 rate was 8.69% on earnings up to $58,700.00) 
  • 10.59% on earning over $ 61,600.00 (2020 rate was 10.15% on earning $58,700.00)
