Lesson 5: Reality checking

GROW

Having defined various long- and short-term goals, we need to evaluate the current situation. Reality checking means observing facts and figures, actions taken, obstacles to overcome, and resources and people available.

Now it might seem backwards to you to set goals before establishing the current situation. However, in coaching, it is important to create direction and forward momentum for your conversation. Even if a goal is only loosely defined, starting with setting a goal will help you get the other steps in motion.

Once you have established your current situation, you can always go back and refine your original goals as needed.
