Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training is critical to maintaining healthy and safe workplaces. Training helps people understand why it matters and how they contribute.
Employers, employees, and Occupational Health and Safety Committees all play a role in identifying and addressing workplace health, safety, and wellness concerns.
Enroll in available courses through the Enterprise Learning Module (ELM) on SAM/HRIS: ELM
Mandatory OHS Training
- Workplace Safety Awareness
All GNWT employees are required to take the online Workplace Safety Awareness module when they join the GNWT. This course is available at any time and is recommended when employees move to a new position.
It does not replace job-specific safety training.
- Supervisor Safety Training
GNWT employees at every level of a supervisory role, including employees acting in a supervisory role, are required to take Supervisor Safety Training as required by the Safety Act of the Northwest Territories. Courses are instructor-led in person or online.
As there is a cost to this course, your enrollment is only complete when your supervisor approves your registration.
- Occupational Health and Safety Committee Training
Occupational Health and Safety Committee Co-Chairs are required to complete Occupational Health and Safety Committee training. The GNWT supports all committee members in completing the training.
Training is not currently available through the ELM. Speak with your supervisor to arrange training through an external provider.
Departments can arrange to have training scheduled for their teams.
