Indigenous Mentorship Program

About the Program

The Indigenous Mentorship Program (IMP) is a Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) pilot program developed under the Indigenous Recruitment and Retention Framework. It pairs Indigenous employees with experienced GNWT staff to foster culturally respectful relationships that support career development, leadership growth, and knowledge-sharing.

Mentorship is a proven way to build confidence, strengthen networks, and open doors to new opportunities. For Indigenous employees, it also provides a safe space to share experiences and navigate workplace challenges.

What's Involved?

  • Approximately 2 hours per month for 9 months;
  • In-person orientation session and end of program gathering; (start and end of program);
  • Regular meetings and check-ins;
  • Commitment to confidentiality and open communication.

Participants will also have access to regular check ins and feedback, peer support networks, and curated resources for professional development.

How to Apply

Applications are open to:

  • Mentees: Indigenous employees in term or indeterminate positions;
  • Mentors: Experienced Indigenous employees committed to supporting Indigenous staff and in term or indeterminate positions.
