2024 Rates for the Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, and the Government of Canada Pension Plan

Rates for the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Employment Insurance (EI), and the Government of Canada Pension Plan (Superannuation) are subject to change each year.

The new rates for 2024 are:

CPP

Starting in 2024, the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) has implemented a second additional CPP contribution (CPP2) for higher income earners.  

For earnings up to $68,500, CPP will be calculated at 5.95% to a yearly maximum contribution in 2024 of $3,867.50. (The 2023 rate was 5.95% to a maximum contribution of $3,754.45). 

For earnings between $68,500 and $73,200, CPP will be calculated at 4.00% to a yearly maximum contribution in 2024 of $188.00. (This is a new change in 2024 tax year). 

The yearly maximum contributions in 2024 total $4,055.50 for both CPP and CPP2.

EI

For earnings up to $63,200, EI will be calculated at 1.66% of insurable earnings to a yearly maximum contribution in 2024 of $1,049.12. (The 2023 rate was 1.63% to a maximum contribution of $1,002.45). 

Superannuation Pension Contributions

There is a change in pension contributions for all employees as per the rates below:

Group 1 (employees enrolled before Jan 1, 2013)

  • 9.35% on earnings up to $68,500.00. (2023 rate was 9.35% on earnings up to $66,600.00) 
  • 12.25% on earning over $68,500.00. (2023 rate was 12.37% on earnings over $66,600.00)

Group 2 (employees enrolled after Jan 1, 2013)

  • 7.94% on earnings up to $68,500.00. (2023 rate was 7.93% on earnings up to $66,600.00) 
  • 11.54% on earning over $68,500.00. (2023 rate was 11.72% on earning $66,600.00)
