2025-2026 School Year - 27 Pay Periods

Due to the standardized pay schedule introduced in the 2008-2009 school year, the 2025-2026 school year will have 27 pay periods. Teachers will receive their first pay on August 1, 2025, and their 27th pay on July 31, 2026.

All GNWT employees will receive 27 pay periods in the 2026 calendar year. For teachers, who are paid from August to July, the 27-pay-period school year runs from August 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026.

Hourly Rate Calculation

The yearly salaries posted in the NWTTA Collective Agreement have been divided by 2,025 hours to determine the hourly rates. This is calculated by multiplying 27 pay periods by the standard 75 hours per pay period.

HRIS Display Issue

The Department of Finance, Employee Services Division, is aware that the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is currently displaying incorrect yearly amounts in the Self Service – Compensation History view. This occurs because the system multiplies the hourly rate by 1,950 hours (the standard for 26 pay periods) instead of 2,025 hours.

Employee Services assures NWTTA staff that the correct hourly rates are being applied for salary, northern allowance, and teacher allowances (as shown on the paycheque view). The correct annual amounts will be reached by the final pay of the school year on July 31, 2026.

Salary and Northern Allowance Grids

Amended Salary and Northern Allowance Grids have been created to help teachers review their hourly and annual rates in HRIS and compare them to the annual salary grid in the NWTTA Collective Agreement for the current school year.

Sample Salary Breakdown for 27 Pay Periods

Teachers are set up in PeopleSoft as 7.5 hours per day (Full Time). 27 pay periods in the school year equals 2,025 hours.

For the 2025-2026 school year, a teacher at Category 4, Step 11 will receive an annual salary of $135,557.00.

Hourly rate: $135,557.00 ÷ 2,025 hrs = $66.941756
Biweekly installment: $66.941756 × 75 hrs = $5,020.63
