The GNWT Leadership Development Program is delivered in partnership with Aurora College. Through the program, participants will:

  • Acquire knowledge and skills in the subject areas of leadership development.
  • Develop skills which will allow them to better engage, communicate with, and manage their respective teams in the workplace.
  • Develop a base of leadership skills so that they can continue their leadership development as they are exposed to increased responsibilities in the workplace.

The Leadership Development Program has two levels available for participants:

  • Level 1, the Emerging Leaders stream, is designed for new and aspiring leaders. It builds foundational leadership skills, including self-awareness, communication, interpersonal effectiveness, decision-making, and stress management.
  • Level 2the Existing Leaders stream, is designed for leaders with experience in management roles. It strengthens advanced leadership capabilities, including strategic thinking, decision-making, communication, conflict resolution, change management, and team leadership, with an emphasis on applying these skills in practice.

The program consists of ten modules, with several themes embedded throughout the modules. In addition to the pre-entry workshop, the Personal Development module is designed to lay the foundation for the success of the participants. This module focuses on self-awareness, learning styles, critical reflection, ethics, integrity and accountability. By acquiring a greater understanding of “self,” participants will learn to critically examine the environment around them, and to better understand other individuals in that environment.

While every module has a primary topic area, each one also reinforces the themes that are embedded throughout the program content. All of the modules emphasize effective leadership, communications skills, problem solving, decision-making, conflict management and presentation skills; these will be reflected in the individual and group activities.

The emotional intelligence model and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator will be the primary unifying self-awareness tools of the program content. This includes an Emotional Quotient (EQ) assessment.
