The Department of Finance, through Human Resources (HR), delivers several programs and services that managers and supervisors should be aware of, including:

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The GNWT partners with GreenShield Health to provide the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Through the EAP, employees and eligible dependents can access confidential counselling and resources for mental health, wellness, and everyday life needs.

Available services include individual and couples counselling, culturally safe virtual counselling with Indigenous counsellors through Noojimo Health, children’s mental health support, substance use programming, self-guided digital mental health tools, and professional guidance related to health and nutrition, legal and financial matters, career development, and life transitions.

Support for Managers and Supervisors

Managers, supervisors, and Human Resources professionals can consult confidentially with GreenShield Health professionals for guidance on responding to complex workplace situations in ways that support safety, dignity, and employee well-being. This may include noticeable changes in an employee’s well-being or work performance, mental health or substance use concerns, experiences of bullying, organizational change, concerns about immediate safety, or traumatic workplace events.

The GNWT’s agreement also includes:

• Assisted and mandated referral services
• An organization-wide allocation of 20 substance use assessments each year
• Support for up to 20 critical incidents each year, with up to four hours available per incident
• 12 workplace wellness webinars each year

Managers should consult their Human Resources representative before requesting these services. Other specialized clinical and workplace services may be available on a fee-for-service basis and require prior approval.
